This was a great research and design project which included New Zealand regional motel rooms, a Tokyo ‘Love Hotel’ and culminated in a coastal sea cave.
The Aberrations
Turning a Wellington pine forest into a snowed in American wilderness proved a challenge in this low budget horror flick.
The Ugly
This stylized slasher movie needed inventive design solutions on a miniscule budget. It was great fun to design and was rewarded by a ‘Best Art Direction’ gong from the New Zealand Film awards.
The Frighteners
Shot in Wellington and Christchurch and starring Michael J Fox this comedy/ horror involves a psychic detective on the hunt for a deceased serial killer. Huge fun to watch and to make.
Heavenly Creatures
Visualizing the imagination of the Reiper and Hulme girls as well as correct period detailing of 1950’s Christchurch, this film was a breakout success and still stands as a classic New Zealand movie.
An Angel at my Table
Covering a 30 year time period this story of one of New Zealand’s great writers, Janet Frame, went on to win many international awards including the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
Jack be Nimble
Symbolist themeing and styalised location dressing were used in this small budget suspense story.
